9 Ways to Boost Your Self-Confidence

If you were to boost your self-confidence, would your success in business increase? You may not need much self-confidence to get by in business, but it would certainly make it easier to achieve the success you desire and deserve.

If your self-confidence is not as high as it could be, you may not attempt some activities that could be challenging. There’s an old saying, “no guts, no glory”. If you don’t believe you can be a success, you may not be.

1. Be Self-Aware 

Take an inventory of your skills and strengths. Dig deep on this one. Include things that you think apply, even if you’ve never tried them. 

Are you punctual, reliable, artistically-inclined? Write it all down.

Getting all of this down on paper will show you how great you are and why you have many reasons to be a confident person. 

2. Consider What You’ve Achieved

Consider the great things that you have already achieved. Add them to your list. Focus on those instead of the times when you were not as successful as you could have been. Spend more time thinking about the good things that you have done. Our thoughts matter and shape how we feel – choose those thoughts carefully.

3. Keep Track of your daily achievements

Why not keep an “Achievements Journal”? Record your accomplishments at the end of each day. 

An achievement can be as simple as making your bed first thing in the morning, getting the trash out without having to chase the garbage truck down the street or even helped your child with their homework or played ball with them. The little things matter and they add up towards boosting your confidence.

4. Learn new ways to motivate yourself

The more motivated you are, the more likely you are to achieve your goals. It’s easy to procrastinate when our motivation is low. At the beginning of your day, maybe over your morning coffee or tea, make a list of what you need to do – write down things you can do that will make you feel like you’ve accomplished something. 

Putting these tasks down on paper now gives you a plan – a plan that you can achieve. Challenge yourself to check as many items off your list as possible during your day. The more you tick off, the more accomplished and satisfied you’ll feel at the end of the day.

Here are some examples:

  • Get 30 minutes of exercise – even if it’s just a 30-minute walk
  • Read a chapter of a business book

Make two new sales calls that day or attend an online networking meeting. Clubhouse is a great way to network without leaving your desk. 

 Even though Clubhouse is an audio medium and not video, you may feel that it doesn’t matter what you wear; experts believe how you look influences your attitude, which can come across in a non-video networking call. So dress and look the part. 

  •  You may want to dance as if no one is watching, but practice networking as though everyone is watching – as if you’re at the Chamber of Commerce, not in your bedroom or basement.

5. Practice Self-Care

Feeling and looking your best goes a long way to boost your self-confidence, so take the time to stay fit and healthy.

  • Exercise daily
  • Practice good grooming habits
  • Be well dressed – keep your clothes in good repair

When you take good care of yourself, you will believe that you deserve success. And that confidence will radiate to others, and they will assume that you deserve it as well.

6. Give yourself a goal

Setting a goal to boost your confidence allows you to see where you need the most confidence in your life. For example, if you are not confident about making cold calls, work on boosting your confidence. Make a game of it. Challenge yourself to see how many you have to make to get to a yes. 

7. Keep your brain challenged

Continuous learning is essential to be successful and confident. The more you know, the more confident you will feel. 

  • Read the newspaper to keep up on what’s going on in the world. 
  • Read a new business book. 
  • Learn a new word each day. Merriam Webster has a word a day site.

8. Keep at it

Consistently work at improving your confidence every day. Set a goal each morning to be better at the end of the day than you were yesterday – even if it is in a small way. Baby steps grow into giant steps. 

9. Ask for help

Sometimes it is not easy to increase your confidence in the way that you would like. When you were younger, careless things said to you by family members, teachers, classmates, and even society may have imprinted in your subconscious mind, negatively affecting your confidence and making it difficult to improve it.
