Change happens when you’re ready

Let me repeat that – change happens when you’re ready – and not before.

change happens

When people book a free inquiry call with me, one of the questions I ask people to answer is “on a scale of 1 to 10 with 10 being extremely motivated, where are you on that scale”.

If I get an answer of 8 or less, I suggest that they rebook when they are ready. In some cases, that lower number may be because of fear of hypnosis, which I understand, movies and television tends to exaggerate for entertainment purposes.

But if that lower number is really because they’re not ready to make the change, there’s no point going forward with hypnosis. They’ll only be wasting their money and both of our time.

Change happens when people reach their tipping point

Tipping Point: “the point at which a series of small changes or incidents becomes significant enough to cause a larger, more important change.”

A tipping point could be a an event that causes someone to decide that they have to eliminate a “too much” behaviour.

For example:

  • a significant or milestone birthday coming up
  • getting an ultimatum by a partner – and they decide they care more about their partner than the behaviour
  • being told by a doctor or dentist that a desired or needed surgery is not going to happen unless they lose weight or quit smoking

You get the idea.

Sometimes current events cause change not to happen – right now

A client in the United States wants to lose weight. And we did her first session just after Christmas. But then delays started to happen. In one case we rescheduled because I was not feeling well that day so we re-booked.

Then that appointment was cancelled by her because she wasn’t feeling well because she hadn’t slept well the previous night.

And we had a chat. She’s been worrying about the events in Washington over the past week and what is going to happen with Trump. She has kids in school and they live fairly close to Washington. And she’s worried about the insurgent behaviour and the safety of her kids.

She felt that maybe that losing weight wasn’t going to happen right now. Maybe it wasn’t meant to be.

And I understand that. I suggested that maybe she should keep being as careful with her food choices as she can and keep listening to the reinforcement recording she received after her first session and do the best she could. And then we could revisit things and see how she feels after Joe Biden’s inauguration, she might be able to relax more and then we could pick up where we left off. And she liked that idea.

So are you ready? Have you reached that tipping point?

So if you are ready for the change you want to make to happen, why not book a free inquiry call. It could be the 20 minutes that changes your life!
