Helping Coaches Make Their Clients Coachable

As a business coach, do you have clients that are often not coachable?

Not because they don’t want results, but sometimes it seems that it is hard for them to get to where they want to go.

And in turn, does it make your job a bit more difficult? Does it make you feel that you have failed your client?

Entrepreneurs work with coaches for various reasons, such as:

  • because entrepreneurs are so close to their situation, the coach can see things that they can’t
  • help them keep their eye on the prize and move forward
  • the coach can give advice based on their experience
  • a coach can be a listener and person to bounce ideas off of
  • help with short and long-term planning
  • the coach will tell a client like it is, the good, the bad and the ugly

And coaches generally have clients who are ready, willing and able to work with them so they can move their business ahead and be profitable.

But sometimes, there are those clients who want to work with a coach and move their business forward who just can’t seem to implement the necessary changes.

There may be internal blocks that prevent people from implementing the ideas and processes that you provide. While some people may want to be successful, something is keeping them from moving ahead on their own and implementing suggestions made in your coaching sessions.

Reasons why someone may appear to not be coachable

An article in Forbes points out some reasons why employees are not coachable and some of these could also apply to entrepreneurs who may work with you.

Those reasons include:

  1. being defensive when receiving feedback
  2. coming up with excuses and blaming other people and situations – also known as “blamestorming”
  3. unwillingness to try new behaviours and if they do, not sticking with them

The Forbes article talks about other reasons why people can’t be coached but the above may apply to your entrepreneurial clients in addition to the typical reasons why people hire a business coach.

The reasons people may have the behaviours listed above may be stored in their subconscious mind. And these reasons could have been imprinted there years and years before they even started their business.

A child with a critical parent may grow up to be defensive when receiving feedback. Or, they may blame others as a way to protect themselves. They may have grown up with adults around them who were not successful and would verbally say, “nothing ever works”, or “people like us do not deserve to be successful”.

Hypnosis can help your client move forward with your coaching program

Coaching alone can’t change the programming in the subconscious mind. This is where hypnosis can help. Hypnosis can replace the current inner roadblocks with new empowering beliefs so that you and your client can move forward with the coaching program that you are ready to implement and that they want.

Hypnosis can make the uncoachable coachable.

If you have a client that has blocks that you and they just can’t get past, perhaps hypnosis can help you both.
