Hands up if you are a repeat Weight Watchers member. You’ve joined and stayed on the program for a few months and then you drifted away. Then after a while, maybe a few months or a few years but you go back.
And again, you stay for a while and then fall away.
And you wonder why it is so hard. Why you can’t stick with it.
Weight Watchers offers a great program to help people lose weight, so what happens to many members?
So why do people fall off the Weight Watchers wagon?
Well for starters, you have to understand how the mind works – the conscious and subconscious. I go into how hypnosis works in more detail in my “What is Hypnosis” page.
The basic idea is that your willpower is in the conscious part of your mind and this is temporary. The conscious mind only holds seven to nine pieces of information at a time. So when a situation comes in that might cause someone to make a bad choice, willpower may be pushed away.
BUT, the reasons why you overeat or can’t stay committed to your program (any program) are stored in the subconscious part of your mind.
Some of these reasons may be:
- Eating when angry
- Boredom eating
- Lack of confidence
- Eating in multiple rooms of the house
- Habits – junk food, etc.
- Eating while distracted – while working, watching television, etc.
- Lack of motivation to exercise
- Imprints – limiting beliefs learned from parents
- Eating too much food
- Strong attraction to sugar or salt
- Mindless eating
- Social eating
Consider the following example:
As a child, Betty may have been given a cookie or candy if she was sad or hurt. Betty grew up feeling that food equalled comfort.
As an adult she may be having a great day and is staying on track and motivated – she believes her motivation is firmly in place.
Then something happens to upset her and her willpower may get pushed out of her conscious mind as she reaches for a cookie.

I offer a computerized weight loss program that helps me determine your personality type. This helps me determine how to phrase the hypnotic suggestions that I give to you in your sessions.
Then we’ll book your sessions. I do three-session packages. The second session is one week following the first session.
If you find that you are feeling like you can stay on track after the second session, you will be able to hold on to the third session to use anytime within a year if you need some extra help.
