I ask all weight loss clients to be mindful when eating. Because we live in such a rushed world, we seem to eat our meals working in front of the computer or television after a long day. I ask clients to reconsider this and take a pause.

Here are three suggestions I give them to be more mindful while eating.

  1. Put down your fork or spoon between bites, and only pick it back up after you’ve completely chewed and swallowed the bite of food.
  2.  Completely chew your food. Again, it will slow your eating, and when you thoroughly chew your food – until it is almost like a paste- you do good things for digestion. Remember, digestion does start in the mouth.
  3.  Turn off the TV, do not eat meals in front of the computer, and don’t read. Instead, focus fully on your meal. Enjoy soft music in the background, or talk to those dining with you.

Here are some of the benefits of mindful eating:

1. Improved Digestion

As I said, digestion begins in the mouth. When you chew your food thoroughly, saliva breaks it down, partially digesting it, making it a little easier on your digestive organs.

2. Better Weight Management

It takes about 20 minutes for your mind to get the memo that you’re full. Eating mindfully allows you to eat slower, giving the mind/body connection time to catch up.

3. Mindful Eating Helps You Enjoy Your Food More

You appreciate your food much more when you can taste it, which means it’s an opportunity to use more of your senses – smell and taste. Even vision if you take the time to appreciate what’s on your plate. So many times, in a rush, people don’t even notice what they’re eating.

4. More Even Blood Sugar Regulation

Research suggests that mindful eating may improve blood sugar levels, particularly in individuals with diabetes or prediabetes. It may also help regulate blood sugar spikes.

Why not try one or more of the three suggestions in this post and share how you felt about it and how it worked for you in the comments? If you would like to use hypnosis to manage your we
