Many of my colleagues are using Zoom, Skype, Facetime and other apps for their online hypnosis sessions. I, on the other hand, use a product that:
- has been designed for telehealth services,
- is compliant with HIPAA (United States) and PIPEDA (Canada),
- has servers that are located in Canada (for storage of your intake forms and other information), and
- provides video connections that are peer-to-peer – this means that our video session does not go through servers.
When it is time for your session, all you have to do is click on a link you receive and voila, you are in your session ready to work. There is nothing to download and run on your device.
While the other apps I mentioned above may be fine for talking to your grandmother, holding a virtual party or even doing training, but when it comes to giving you an excellent, safe and confidential session, there is no room for compromise.
5 Tips for a Great Online Session
I will send you a document prior to your first session with information to help you have an optimum online session, but here are some general tips to help ensure you have a great session.
Ensure your browser is up-to-date
Use an updated Chrome, Mozilla Foxfire or Safari 11 browser.
Make sure your camera, microphone, and speakers are on and adjusted appropriately.
First time users will be prompted to “Allow” their camera and microphone on their device to connect with the system I use. What this mean is that if you do not “Allow” your camera and microphone to connect with the system, your audio video session will not work.
If possible, use an Ethernet cable to connect to the Internet (sometimes a poor Wi-Fi connection can impact call quality).
Use an HD webcam camera to achieve an HD video feed if possible. Your built-in device camera or external webcam should do the trick in most cases.
Ensure You Have a Great Internet Connection
Limit internet usage during your online hypnosis appointment. For example, do not stream movies or download music at the same time, even on a different computer on the same network.
So, please let others in your home know about this and ask that they not do any streaming or gaming while you are enjoying your hypnosis session.
Face a light source and limit background noise, therefore please avoid having your back facing a window. Your device camera will pick too much light and impact picture quality for other participants). Positioning yourself between two and four feet from the camera is idea.
Make sure that you are in a private environment or wear earphones to avoid unintended individuals from overhearing your session.
Provide me with a phone number to contact you in case our connection drops.
Also, please provide me with the name and number of someone to contact in case of an emergency. This is extremely rare, but better safe than sorry.
