You know that quitting smoking saves you money because you no longer have to buy cigarettes.
But did you know that you can save in other ways as well?
It’s true. I checked with our insurance broker, Mark Lipman of Consolidated Insurance Brokers, and he shared the following information with me.
Your insurance provider will likely reward you with a 5 to 10% discount when you are a non-smoker.
If you have a life insurance policy and are a smoker, did you know that you are probably paying 30 to 40% more in premiums than a non-smoker?
Disability and Critical Illness policies are also included in this category.

Once you have passed your first year anniversary (it’s generally 12 months of being smoke-free, but that may vary by provider) of being smoke-free, check with your broker or insurance company and give them the happy news. Ask them if you are eligible for a non-smoker discount.
You may be pleasantly surprised at what you learn.
In addition to the satisfaction and pride you feel at being a non-smoker, you’ll experience better health, both physically and financially.
